No Sugar November

Hello everyone and for today’s post I’ll be talking to you about how I’ll be going sugar free for November and why you should too!

Everyone loves a bit of sugar, right? The thing is, what we consider healthy is actually a misconception… The daily recommended intake of sugar is 9.5 teaspoons BUT! The average adult gobbles 22 teaspoons a day. Can you even imagine how unhealthy that must be? Of course, you do! It’s just easier to ignore the fact that sugar is a drug.

You know in some cases sugar has been found to be just as addictive as cocaine!

It’s not really our fault. Sugar is in pretty much everything from fizzy drinks to ketchup. For starter’s one fizzy drink usually contains at least 10 teaspoons of sugar! Around 80% of packaged foods contain sweeteners just to make you like it that little bit more. The sad thing is foods with high sugar intakes or sweeteners are usually cheaper. So, it really is sad because poorer people are not only poor but also at larger risks of heart attacks or early deaths because they couldn’t afford to buy individual ingredients for a meal instead of a ready meal.

The entire world usually consumes 165 million tons of sugar.
This is supposed to be a 1 ton truck, so imagine this times 165 million!

Eating too much sugar can lead to bad teeth (could be worse financially for people who live in countries having to pay medical insurance), increased risks of cancer and heart attacks and weight gains.

Free sugars are the real evils. They can be added to your food without your knowing. If your at a restaurant are you really going to ask how much sugar they put in your cake? Sugar can be added to biscuits, yoghurts, cereals, fizzy drinks or even just to make something taste better

OKAY OKAY! Yeah, the facts are quite fear mongering but how can you cut down?

You can have diet or sugar free sodas or have squash or sparkling water. It’s a little harder for sugar in hot drinks like tea but you can always get yourself off them gradually or have a sweetener. Eat fruits instead of things like syrup, change your spreads like jam or Nutella to something like a reduced sugar jam or sliced banana spread and eat cereals that aren’t laced with sugar (you can always add fruit to make cereal more tasty).

Make sure to always look at the labels too so you are aware of how much sugar you are eating
