The Serpent King

Image
Upon first glance The Serpent King by Jeff Zenter seems a little bit boring. And, to be honest it starts off like that too! Nevertheless, the book rises up to a breath taking read and end up an eye-opening book breaching many different topics from mental health to small town world problems. The overall plot broaches a few difficult to read topics like cultish brainwashing, child abuse and depression. Jeff Zenter brings three main characters: ·          Dill – the son of the pastor who has been incarcerated in prison ·          Lydia – a famous fashion blogger aiming to succeed in the world and go off to university ·          Travis - an obsessive book nerd who pretends he is in the fantasy rather face reality As a teen myself, hoping to go off to University in September it was a book I really needed to read without realising it. The Serpent King is a far cry from my usual fantasy world storylines. And

2018 was BAD and here's why...

Image
This year was a real bummer! Not sure about you but for me I suffered so much stress and hopelessness through exams and putting pressure on myself to do well. Or even just the stress of typical teenage insecurity of friendships and my appearance. "What if it all goes wrong?" This became my eternal chant inside the back of my head for the majority of 2018. Somehow, I don't feel alone. Every year I feel. UGH! "It was worse than last year!" And I have a slump. How am I ever going to achieve my 2018 resolutions now? BUT... As I stated earlier, I'm not alone. And. Neither are you! Whilst researching for this post I decided it would be a bright idea to look up ' 2018 was a bad year' . Here's the results: Perhaps 2018 has not actually been a bad year. Shocking, I know! It's like seeing only Instagram models on your social media 24/7 - it impacts your ability to recognise beauty in normal people and even yourself. Looking mirror s

The Problem With Jealousy...

Image
Sometimes life just gets macabre. Doesn't it? That's when hives of jealousy pour out of everywhere and you're left comparing yourself to others and begrudging them for their success - even if it's something silly like cleaning the sink. You've got my attention now, but how do I fix it? How do I stop comparing myself to others? How do I get my life back? You see that's a tricky question... The untold truth is that nobody can just stop you feeling jealous at the drop of a hat. It's up to you. BUT, that's okay! It means that you're life is just a little bit more personalised.   So is that it then? Of course not! Just because I can't stop you from being jealous doesn't mean I can't give you a few pointers. Don't know about you but I always see videos about this kind of thing. Perhaps I'll blend into the mix but I want to give you some advice.                                                            What is it that mak

A Six of Crows Review

Image
A Six of Crows is written by the New York Times best seller Leigh Bardugo. And, in today’s post I’m going to be telling you on whether or not you should read it yourself! First of all, the book is set in the “Grisha Verse” where there are some with magical abilities to alter the world. Leigh Bardugo has written other series in the same universe such as the “Shadow and Bone” trilogy. There are six different characters and viewpoints in this book: ·          A convict with a thirst for revenge ·          A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager. ·          A runaway with a privileged past. ·          A spy known as the Wraith. ·          A heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. ·          A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes. This book is fantastic! I rate it 5/5 stars because it was a really original idea and I just couldn’t put it down. My favourite parts of the book were the different viewpoints. In the past I’ve read books lik

Life Update!

Image
The untold truth is, blogging is a lot of hard work. If you know a little bit about me, you’ll know I’m only my second month in. But you’ve got to persevere! Sure, things get busy and life gets tough but as long as you keep on trotting along, you’ll get where you want to go. Recently, I’ve decided I want to go to university – a year earlier than previously anticipated. This means I have to go through all the horrors of a personal statement, saving up money, getting ready to leave your beloved bed behind (Scary, isn’t it?!). AND! I’ve got to do this all the while studying for passing exams and living my everyday life. But that doesn’t stop me. This post is a little bit of a chat. I need to let you guys know that I’m going through a little bit of a low. Content’s a little tricky as I feel a little bit stretched out in places. Rest assured though I will not give up blogging! Of course it’s going to take time getting my life sorted with my new hobby of blogging thrown into

November Blog Goals

Image
Do you know that last month’s blog goals were my most viewed post? I know! I was really surprised me – 44 views may not seem like a lot to some but to me it made my day. Maybe even my month! So, in order to keep improving myself and my blog we are going to do another one! 1.        I want to gain 650 twitter followers! As of the moment I have around 452 followers and that’s pretty much from just one month of blogging. I’ve read so many blogposts and read so many comments about how important social media is for bloggers and this is just one way I want to boost that to my blog’s benefit. You can find me @ ElectricallyE on twitter! 2.        I want to gain 200 followers on Pinterest! I’ve heard from so many people that Pinterest is their main source of traffic and so I started one up in the middle of last month and started creating boards and saving pins. Every now and then I would also add some of my own cover photos to boards too. This month, I want to get more enga
